How To Grant Manager Rights for an Access Group & What Each Right Allows

This article lets you know how to grant rights for an Access Group and a detailed description of those rights.

Audience: 

This article is intended for Site Administrators and User Administrators. 

Prerequisites: 

To view the Role & Access Groups a user belongs to from the "Groups" tab, you must first assign them to a Role Group or Access Group with permission to view the tab. The group(s) assigned to each user will be displayed next to their name in the user list. 


Granting Manager Rights for an Access Group

From the Groups tab, assign them to the chosen Access Group and grant them manager rights to manage the Access Groups they belong to.

    • To grant the user Manager Rights for the Access Group:

      • Click the kabob icon (three vertical dots) next to the group
      • Select "Add Manager" from the dropdown menu.

Once you click "Add Manager", an in-app popup will appear prompting you to select the permissions this Manager will have within the group:

  • Choose User Rights, File Rights, or both.
  • Use the checkboxes to specify the granular permission set for the manager.

Below is a breakdown of what each checkbox option allows:

User Rights

Managers/admins with user rights can now be assigned granular permissions, including:

  • Create Users: Ability to create users within their group.
  • Edit Users: Modify details for users in their group.
  • Add Users: Allows the manager to add an existing user in the system into their group.  As a side effect, the manager can now see all users in the system.
  • Remove Users: Allows a manager to remove a user from their group.
  • Authentication Tab Access (AuthN): Control authentication settings for users they manage.
  • IP Restrictions: Set and manage IP restrictions for users in their group.
  • SSH Key Management: Add SSH keys for users within their group.
  • Reports: View reports for users and files in their managed groups only.

File Rights

Managers/admins with file rights have access to additional capabilities, including:

  • Full File Control: Manage files comprehensively for their groups.
  • Create Notifications: Set up notifications specific to their groups.
  • File Retention Rules: Manage retention rules for folders in their groups.
  • Shares: View what users in their groups have shared through public facing links.
  • Access: Modify download, upload, delete, and view permissions for users in their groups.
  • Reports: View reports for users and files in their managed groups only.
